Pool a great place for kids to socialise

AS the mercury rises, it's no suprise the Gladstone Aquatic Centre is the place to be.

For mothers Bethany Tiley and Daniele Braddick, it is a perfect play area for their two little boys.

Ms Tiley brings her 16-month-old, Koby, because he can socialise with other children. That is, when he isn't drinking the water.

"When it gets hot it's great to come and enjoy the sun," she said.

"It's a good place for kids to run around and there's not too much deep water for him to fall in."

Koby likes to look around at the water as it shoots in all directions and Ms Tiley has also had a go at the slides.

"You get some speed up on that slide," she said. "I ended up hitting the orange pad at the end."

Ms Braddick said the pool and the beach at Tannum are great ways to get two-and-a-half-year-old Tobiaz out of the house when it heats up.

"There aren't too many indoor places where the kids can play around here," she said.

"On rainy days there's not much to do but we come here a couple times a week.

"There are the parks but when it gets hot we spend most of our time at the beach and here."

The two mothers appreciate the activities on offer in the area.

"It's pretty cheap to spend the day here," Ms Braddick said.

"We also like the music classes the Salvation Army put on for the kids and the Calliope Library."
