LISTEN: Speedy Simmons looking to impress in AMCA
MOTORSPORT: Cody Simmons finished in second place in Saturday night's Gladstone Show Society Speedway.
The rookie driver, in his first year of speedway racing, relished the chance in the AMCA class and finished behind experienced Tony Curd.
It was made all the more impressive because Simmons started at the rear in all of the three heats.
Simmons explained the AMCA's is a progressive class.
"The AMCA's are run with a HQ front end with just a Holden 253 and a few of the boys down south are all starting to go up to a 350 Chev," he said.
"So times are starting to change a little bit and the class is starting to adjust itself and get a big bigger."
Simmons races up and down the East Coast, but hopes there will be more Speedway events here.
"I think it's getting up there and it's pretty good for families and everyone's all involved in it and pretty good to see all of the spectators come," he said.
A Speedway spokesperson said it was an entertaining night.
"The Gladstone Show Society put on a great night of speedway last night," she said.
"Numbers were down, but the crowd was treated to some great racing."
