Speed reduced from Boyne Is to Gladstone to enhance safety
THERE have been a number of speed limit changes in the Gladstone region recently, with the reductions on Gladstone-Benaraby Rd receiving a furore of attention on social media.
The changes were approved by the regional Speed Management Committee, which includes representatives from QPS, engineering and road safety officers from Transport and Main Roads (TMR) and Gladstone Regional Council.
Between the Boyne Island roundabout to the Kirkwood Rd traffic lights, the speed has been reduced from 100kmh to 90kmh.
The speed between the Kirkwood Rd traffic lights and Dalrymple Dr has been reduced from 90kmhr to 80kmhr.
A TMR spokesperson said: "The Speed Management Committee determined that due to the road alignment, narrow road formation and crash rate, the speed limit on Gladstone - Benaraby Road would be reduced to enhance the safety of all road users."
Despite the newly built section of the Kirkwood Rd intersection having been open to traffic since April last year, the spokesperson said the limit was reduced to 80kmh after that section of road due to the introduced traffic signals.
As part of a recent Queensland Government initiative, TMR has recently established a speed limit review website.
The web page includes an online survey - Have your say on speed limit zones in Queensland.
