Mt Larcom speed limit now 70kmh

MOTORISTS have good reason to slow down through Mt Larcom now following a change to the speed limit through the township.

Transport and Main Roads announced the speed limit on the Bruce Hwy through Mt Larcom has been reduced to 70kmh, which came into effect last week.

The reduction from 80kmh is the result of a departmental review which began before the recent accidents in the area.

Gladstone Regional Council Mayor Gail Sellers welcomed the announcement, saying the speed limit reduction was good news for the Mt Larcom community.

"Mt Larcom residents have been calling for this reduction for a long time and any move which helps ensure the safety of their community is a good one," Cr Sellers said.

"The Transport and Main Roads review highlighted visibility as a potential issue for pedestrians and cyclists, so a reduction in speed on a stretch of the highway which passes by a school and sporting facilities is a welcome one."
