Spanish star back on roads for the big race

CYCLING: 2005 champion Luis Leon Sanchez is returning for next month's Tour Down Under as head of the Astana Pro Team.

Sanchez (pictured) is a new signing for the Kazakhstan outfit and race director Mike Turtur said it was always great to welcome back a previous winner.

"Sanchez has a good history with our event," he said.

"As well as taking the overall victory in 2005, he also claimed the Young Rider Classification that same year.

"It has been a few years since he has taken to the start line in Adelaide but his history here includes second overall in both 2006 and 2010, so we can't wait to see him compete."

Sanchez is a four-time Tour de France stage winner and a four-time Spanish Time Trial Champion.

He will be joined by 2014 Tour de France stage winner, Dutch rider Lars Boom and Dario Cataldo.
