A coffee with... Gladstone Power Station's John Abbott
THIS week we have a coffee with NRG Gladstone Power Station general manager John Abbott.
Name: John Abbott.
Occupation: NRG Gladstone Power Station general manager.
Years lived in Gladstone: I arrived back in March last year, but I've lived in Gladstone for 21 of the last 35 years.
What you love about where you live: It's a great lifestyle, I've visited a lot of places overseas and it's hard to beat this lifestyle. It's great for kids.
How do you take your favourite drink? I like a beer and I love red wine.
On a sunny Saturday afternoon you can find me… as often as possible over at south end Curtis Island, we have a house over there.
I can't remember the last time I…had a long holiday. My holidays always seem to be short and interrupted.
My most memorable pet is…a 75kg Wolfhound. His name is Dillon.
Most people around here would say my boats…are things I can't live without. I have four and they all have different purposes.
But the serious answer is my family; I like to spend as much time with them as I can.
To keep fit and healthy I…built a new house, so fencing and gardening is all I seem to have time for at the moment.
The best piece of wisdom I've been told is…the cemetery is full of indispensable people.
It was about delegating, training other people, and not have to get involved in every decision. Good advice for every new young aspiring manager.
What are you spruiking? I'm involved in the CQUniversity.
I've been involved since I was first here as a graduate engineer and it's an interest and a passion to see wherever I can to help that grow.
