Parent calls son's friend a 'slut', teen smashes windows

CALLING a girl a slut can trigger varying degrees of rage... just ask Rockhampton teenager Brandon Jacob Brown.

That rage went beyond boiling point during a round-the-table conversation where one of Brown's parents called one of his female friends the derogatory word.

The 17-year-old lost it and started smashing windows around his parents' home with various objects around the house.

Brown pleaded guilty in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one charge of wilful damage.

Police prosecutor Danita Clarke said about 9.30pm on January 4, this year, police were called to a house in Main St, Park Avenue, where a disturbance had taken place.

Earlier that evening, Brown and his parents were at the kitchen table when the defendant became aggressive.

Ms Clarke said Brown became angry when his parent called a female friend of his a slut.

The court heard Brown used a bird statue to smash a window at his parents' place. He then went outside and started ripping the mailbox out of the ground.

On Friday, Brown's parents were sitting at the back of the court in support of their son when Magistrate Michael O'Driscoll asked them if they wanted to make any statements.

Brown's father simply said: "if he's willing to come home, the rules of our home apply... if he cannot live by them; he has to live by his own means".

Mr O'Driscoll placed Brown on a 12-month good-behaviour bond with a $300 recognisance.
