Solid finishes for basketball teams

GLADSTONE Power under 16 girls completed the Division Two Queensland State Championships in eighth position with four wins (or five wins) and four/five losses.

Aliah Bernabei was simply outstanding throughout with an astonishing 54-point game against Brisbane in an 86-76 win in the Mackay tournament.

She rounded out the tournament with scores of 25 against Sunshine Coast in the first game, 32 against Northside Wizards and 20 against Southern Districts.

Her lowest tally of 16 points was against Ipswich in 53-52 win.

Aliah also shot 21, 26 and 21 against Townsville, Cairns and SWM Pirates Gold.

She had excellent support from Suskia Patai who shot 12 points in the match against Brisbane.

Gladstone were in all of the matches it lost and is an indication that come the next tournament, the girls will be ready to dominate.

Its 51-41 loss against Townsville was a prime example of many things to work on.

Gladstone's first half let it down as Townsville took control with a 32-19 lead and it was catch up basketball from that point.

To Gladstone's credit, it outscored Townsville by three points in the second half.

Aliah scored 36 points in Gladstone's final match against Southern Districts.

However it was not enough as Districts snared seventh spot with a 64-58 win.

The Power division two under 16 boys have battled it out in Townsville and completed the tournament in 14th position out of the 29 teams which competed in the championships.

Gladstone split its record with two wins and two losses.

The wins were against Sunshine Coast Pheonix in a 100-44 canter while the game against Burdekin Wildcats was a 72-61 result.

Isaac King stood tall with 23 points while the other Isaac in Blackaby shot 17.

Isaac King finished with an average of 14.8ppg.

Meanwhile the Under 14 QLD State Champions for the girls commence in Ipswich this Thursday while the boys start their campaign in Brisbane on the same day.

Gladstone's under 12 boys and girls have commenced their matches yesterday in Logan.
