Soccer kicking off again

SKILLS will be tested tomorrow night when the Wolves Soccer Club hold the first round of its six-a-side football competition.

With a smaller field and shorter games the players will need to use a slightly different set of skills than they would in regular matches.

Although a crook knee has kept organiser Peter Scholes out of the competition, he's looking forward to watching all the action from the sideline.

"We wanted to give a six-a-side comp a try this year," Scholes said.

"We have a lot of players interested and we're hoping to grow it next year if it goes well."

Every Thursday from tomorrow until January 26, 17 teams from various clubs around the Gladstone region will play in the competition.

"We have teams from Wolves, Meteors, United, Calliope, BITS, Central and Yaralla," Scholes said.

"We'll have a three-week break over Christmas and then the competition will finish up in time for pre-season."

But for those who haven't got a team and would like to be part of one Scholes encouraged individuals to contact him.

"There are still a few teams who could use a couple of players," he said.

If you're interested contact Brian Niven on 0401 417 485 or Peter Scholes on 0414 664 892.
