'So much more alive!': How this Mackay woman lost 45kg

"FIND something you enjoy!" these are the main words of advice Heather Davies gives to others when they ask how to stay motivated when losing weight.

Just several years ago Ms Davies weighed in at 117kg.

She said she struggled with her weight all through school and into her early and mid-20s.

When her work became more physical in 2014 she was able to lose some of the kilos, however she was still making poor food choices which is why her weight continued to tip the scales at just over 100kg.

It was not until last year that Ms Davies decided something needed to change, which is when she joined up at Warrior the Centre.

"After I joined up, I participated in a 10 week challenge which ran through June - August 2015," she said.

"In that time I went from 103kg to 82.6kg.

"Luke Goodale, the owner of Warrior, along with all of the other trainers there helped me change my diet and taught me about good nutrition and long term lifestyle changes, which I have implemented.

"I have lost another 10kg since the end of the 10 week challenge and am now well below my original goal weight."

Heather Davies now weighs in at 72kg, having lost an overall total of 45kg.

She has since started playing AFL with the North Mackay Saints and says the benefits of a healthier lifestyle are improving other parts of her life.

"My mental health has improved significantly and I also notice a dramatic change in overall mood when I am not eating well and haven't exercised for a few days," she said.

"I rarely have trouble sleeping any more and feel much more refreshed after a normal night's sleep (around 7.5hrs) - in the past, it always seemed like I could never sleep enough.

"People comment on how I seem so much more alive now than I did in the past."

Ms Davies says alongside finding something they enjoy, if anyone else has the desire to become more active around weight loss they need to set realistic goals, maintain a proper nutritional diet and always make exercise a priority.

"Long-term lifestyle changes are what it's all about."
