TOURISTS to the Bay can now cure their holiday blues with a bowl of cereal from home in Queensland's first cereal bar.

Main St's Cereal Addiction serves more than 90 different international varieties of the pre-packaged breakfast.

Cereal Addiction co-owner Bernie Ryman said the cafe, opened Saturday, had been a hit with those locals and visitors keen to crunch down on a $5 to $8 bowl filled with the flakes of their choice.

While German tourists to the Bay have enjoyed the natural mueslis flecked with chocolate, English patrons loved the Shredded Wheat Original and Golden Grahams, she said.

The shop's opening hours were extended from 1pm to 5pm, after hoards of hungry customers queued after the store shut.

The cereal concept came to Bernie and co-owner Lisa Murphy after a few glasses of wine and the duo quickly put it into action.

Now the store has the "yummy stuff" in stock not available in supermarket shelves, including Cookie Crisps from the United States of America.

"(They are) miniature chocolate chip cookies, but instead of cookie dough it's a cereal, made with grains," Bernie said.

Cereal Addiction will also soon have about 25 flavours of pop-tarts available, with muffins and coffee available.
