'Smoke, mirrors' on high school

MEMBER for Burnett Rob Messenger said the announcement by the Education Minister of funding to buy land for a high school in Agnes Water was “one of the biggest let-downs” he could remember.

“We already have the land, we need a commitment to build a high school in Agnes Water,” Mr Messenger said.

“There was no talk of the dollar value, of where the land is or anything about the building of a high school.

“And the Federal Government is putting nothing towards it.”

Mr Messenger was one of the strongest advocates in the campaign for a high school in Agnes Water, and has been for several years.

He led a delegation of parents and residents earlier this year to meet with Education Queensland officers in Brisbane to lobby for a high school in Agnes Water after the Minister, Geoff Wilson, was unavailable to meet with the delegation.

Member for Flynn Chris Trevor had talks with Mr Wilson on the matter after agreeing to a bi-partisan push for a high school in Agnes Water with Mr Messenger.
