Small grass fire in Glen Eden

A grass fire is currently burning in Glen Eden.


The fire started between after 11am today in the vicinity of Mt Rollo Road.


A Gladstone firefighter said no structures are under threat as the the fire is only small and slow moving.


The Mt Maurice rural fire brigade is currently working in the area to contain the blaze by conducting back burning operations.


Residents are being urged to take precautionary measures such as closing their windows and doors and shutting their blinds.


Cars should be moved to a safe location and pets restrained inside.


Any gaps under doors should be sealed and baths, sinks, buckets and wheelie bins filled with water.


Motorists are also asked to be extra vigilant and be aware of emergency crews operating in the area.


Update:

The fire is still burning, causing a smoke hazard in the area.

Residents are advised to keep their doors and windows closed and if they suffer from respiratory illness, to keep medication close by.

Motorists are advised to drive to conditions and exercise caution.
