Skimmers hit bank accounts of Gladstone residents

BANK skimmers are targetting Gladstone residents.

One local has warned of the danger, after skimmers tried to steal more than $800 from her.

The woman, who did not want to be identified, said the attack had happened on Easter Sunday night, when more than seven transactions from Singapore appeared in both of her personal business accounts.

Luckily her bank stepped in and managed to halt the dodgy dealings, but the attempted scam has caused headaches.

"I've had to change pretty much everything, my passwords, my PINs and I've been locked out of my account until I get a security token," she said.

Westpac Gladstone bank manager Nicholas Barker, whose branch was not involved in the incident, said many checks were done behind the scenes after every transaction to ensure customers weren't falling victim to skimmers.

"Under our Falcon chip system, with any non-normal transaction, the client and/or the branch are notified immediately," he said.
