Size 14 woman told 'we don't carry plus sizes' by shop

SELENA Andersen has embraced her curves, but wishes shopping for a great outfit was a little more straightforward.

A size 14, Selena said she often felt intimidated in clothes stores and avoided them as much as possible.

Selena spoke to The Morning Bulletin yesterday after an online debate was sparked this week about what should be classed as plus size.

Some Facebook users expressed anger over clothing store Ice Design, where the size 12 is deemed "large".

One user said when she asked for size 12 bikini bottoms in the store, she was told they "didn't cater for plus size".

Unfortunately when The Morning Bulletin contacted Ice Design's management yesterday they said it was company policy not to comment.

Selena was among those who weighed into the debate.

She wrote about the discomfort she felt when shopping in stores.

"People shouldn't judge what size you are," she wrote.

"People work hard to get to even a size 14."

Selena said part of the problem was there no uniformity across the size spectrum.

Different sizes for different labels caused frustration and often led to a sense of intimidation.

And she'd love to see the term "plus size" dropped for good.

"People who are bigger shouldn't have something that says plus size," Selena said.

She said those who fit into smaller sized clothing weren't labelled.

"We're all equal... it's just a size," Selena said.

Although Selena would like to lose weight, she said it wasn't so she could fit into a particular size.

"I need to be healthy rather than be skinny," she said.

"I'll never not be curvy.

"It's just who I am."
