Situation not normal for sailing

DAVID Mann’s imported sports boat Situation Normal finished a valiant fourth at the Sail Mooloolaba, despite not having any wind in the sails.

Mann’s hope for a competitive weekend of racing didn’t eventuate and he and his crew had to settle for what it could get on the water.

"Weatherwise it was no good, and basically there was no breeze at all," Mann said.

From a field of about a dozen sports boats, it came down to luck of the draw.

"Out of the six races there was only one with breeze, and we came second in that, and then it was basically a lottery," he said.

"But I’m glad I did it, and it’s always good to get out on the water.

Mann’s looking for waters not so calmer this weekend at the North Queensland Sports Boats Championships this weekend at Yeppoon.

"I’d hope the conditions are better," he said.
