Sisters fundraising to attend dad’s Northern Rivers funeral

KELLY and Raeoni Jackson are in a race against time, desperately trying to raise the money to fly from New Zealand to pay their last respects to their late father.

Raymond Jackson was killed when his car left Nimbin Rd at Coffee Camp, became airborne, hit a tree and flipped on November 24.

Ms Jackson said she was shocked when she found out about her fathers death through Facebook a day after he was killed.

"I found out from my best friend Liz after one of dad's close friends found her on Facebook and told her my dad had passed away.," she said.

After their parents marriage broke down when they moved to New Zealand 28-years-ago so her mother could be closer to her family, Ms Jackson said the sisters were put up for adoption.

Despite not living together, Ms Jackson said she and her sister shared a special bond with their father.

"Dad was loving, exciting, spontaneous and a caring man who loved us so much."

"He would always send us birthday and Christmas presents and ring us and come and see us whenever he could."

When Mr Jackson moved back to Australia in 2009 he wasn't in good health, but within months the Northern Rivers lifestyle had transformed him.

"The last time I saw him before he moved he looked stressed and worried and unhealthy, but when I visited him in Nimbin in 2010 he looked so healthy, happy and relaxed."

"He loved living around Nimbin and made many close friends there."

Before the tragic accident, Ms Jackson had been talking with her father about coming to Australia next year to visit.

"Dad was hoping for us to try to get some money together and come over to Australia to see him."

Ms Jackson said she and her sister were hopeful of raising $3000 to attend a celebration of their father's life to be held at Nimbin in January.

"We really want to be able to say goodbye, tell him we love him and say thank you for being a wonderful father."

Any locals who wish to contribute to the Jackson funeral fund can send donations to Kelly Jackson c- Po Box 85, Nimbin NSW, 2480.
