Singer's Blunt confession over Sheeran sword story

JAMES Blunt has sensationally claimed Ed Sheeran's tale of being cut in the face with a sword by Princess Beatrice is a complete lie.

The 43-year-old You're Beautiful singer was present when Sheeran, 26, sustained a cut to the face back in November last year.

At the time, the explanation offered was that the Princess, 28, had been pretending to 'knight' Blunt using a ceremonial sword.

It was then alleged when swinging the sword behind her, she sliced open Sheeran's cheek - sending blood pouring everywhere and the chart topper having to make a dash to the emergency room.

But now Blunt is claiming the story was a lie - concocted by Sheeran in 'desperate' bid to shift album sales.

"Ed was drunk, messing around, and he cut himself. We made a fancy story up; people fell for it. It was very embarrassing,” Blunt confessed to ShortList .

And it seems it wasn't like a tall tale that spiralled out of control.

When asked how much of the story was concocted, Blunt replied: "All of it. Apart from the actual scar. It's bizarre that people fell for it. I blame him. He must be desperate - he's trying to sell records.”

Blunt did confess that he was present when the accident happened, however.

"Yeah, but I didn't do it! He cut himself and I just patched him up. It's made him look prettier,” he said.

Blunt is known for his quick wit, sharp humour, and cutting remarks almost as much as for his music.

At the end of last year, the singer poked fun at himself when he revealed he has his own new album coming up.

Taking to Twitter at the end of a year that saw a string of celebrities die including David Bowie, George Michael and Carrie Fisher, he joked: "If you thought 2016 was bad, I'm releasing an album in 2017.”
