Siblings reunite after 48 years

IT'S been 48 years since Dorothy Sawyers and her family posed for a photo like this.

The last time the 75-year-old and her three siblings, Ronald, Margaret and Graham were all together was at Graham's wedding in 1966.

That was of course until recently, when the family gathered in Ipswich for what could very well be their final reunion together.

The get-together took place at Dorothy and her husband George's home in Yamanto.

Mrs Sawyers said her eldest brother Ronald, 82, had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and that the family wanted to meet up before his condition deteriorated.

"We'd seen different members of the family from time to time, but we had not all been together for decades," the great-grandmother said.

"Ron lives in Griffith, NSW, so his wife, Val drove him up to see us all. Graham and his wife, Sue, came down from Coolum and Margaret and her husband John travelled from Blacktown, NSW."

Mrs Sawyer said it had been a lovely - and long overdue - opportunity for the family to reconnect with one another.

"We all love each other and get on well together but then family had just spread apart over time," she said.

"It was a lot of fun getting my brothers and sisters together and reminiscing about the old times."
