Shortage of blood causing concern

RED Cross staff are concerned blood supplies will drop even lower this week as a result of the Melbourne Cup races.

In previous years, blood donations have dropped by more than 1000 during the week of Cup Carnival - which is particularly worrying this year, as blood supplies are already at a dangerous low.

While Curves, Gladstone, led by example last week by joining the Gym Challenge and donating blood, stocks are still in desperate need of topping up.

Blood Service community relations officer Katie Wood-row expressed her concern.

"The Blood Service aims to have six days' supply in stock, currently we have less than four days' supply," she said. Call 13 14 95.
