Shoot for lower costs

THE team at Sportspower in Lismore and Ballina know a thing or two about sourcing sports gear for local sporting clubs.

In fact, they're now specialising in selling it, with their new teamware division the first of its kind in the Northern Rivers.

Sportspower Ballina and Lismore teamware manager Myles Burgess said the business saw the need to provide a one-stop-shop for sporting clubs to source balls, uniforms and other sporting goods at a wholesale price.

By cutting out the middle man, Sportspower gives clubs direct access to sporting gear so that they don't have to buy from outside the region.

"So many of the people who work at sporting clubs are volunteers and they are trying to save money where they can," Mr Burgess said.

"Up until now, they would have to buy their gear from all different places and it costs more to do it that way."

Sportspower Lismore and Ballina owner James Reeve said after 10 years in the business, the staff had seen the frustration of sporting clubs due to supplier delays or holding stock and wanted to make things easier for locals.

"It's also about the convenience factor and saving money, which is what really counts for locals," Mr Reeve said.

"The theory is if we take the stress away from sourcing gear, club volunteers can get on with the things they need to do."

Sportspower is offering the service free of charge, buying the goods directly from the wholesaler.

They can also assist sporting clubs in branding.

"It's important for businesses to engage with the community, as before these people were talking to stores in Sydney rather than buying locally," Mr Burgess said.

Sportspower can also provide to schools.
