A woman is nearly hit by a car as she crosses Hume St at a pedestrian crossing.

SHOCKING footage has emerged of a close call at a notorious pedestrian crossing in Toowoomba.

A video posted to YouTube showed cars heading south on Hume St.

A car in the right lane stopped to allow a woman to cross a pedestrian crossing close to the Hooper Centre.

She casually crossed the road but then suddenly jumped back to avoid a blue car in the left lane which nearly ran her over.

The driver of the waiting car was alert to possible danger and warned the pedestrian by beeping the horn.

The warning may have saved the life of the pedestrian, who leaped back at the last second and avoided being struck by mere centimetres.

Do motorists take enough care at pedestrian crossings?

This poll ended on 19 November 2016.

Yes - 8%

No - 91%

This is not a scientific poll. The results reflect only the opinions of those who chose to participate.

The video was uploaded by Agentsmith2181 who wrote: "An older bloke failed to stop and give way to a pedestrian at a marked pedestrian intersection almost striking the pedestrian.

"I saw him approaching at speed from the rear and sounded my horn to warn the pedestrian.

"Fortunately no one was injured.

"You will notice the driver who almost hit the pedestrian failed to brake at any time before, during or after the near miss and continued."
