SHOCKING footage showing the speed at which the Toowoomba CBD was flooded on January 10 has been released for the first time.

The Toowoomba Regional Council footage shows how a sea of brown water arrived, caused chaos and then left the CBD within a two-hour period.

The footage was presented to the Queensland Floods Commission of Inquiry today and has been made public for the first time.

It shows cars being washed down city creeks and rescues occuring in Margaret St.

The extreme force of the water became clear when a large water tank washed down a creek and wiped out a large pedestrian bridge.

Further submissions and evidence will be presented this afternoon.
