Shock election for Tasmania after Greens deal sours

TASMANIA will go to an early election in March, after Premier Lara Giddings ended Labor's deal with the state's Greens to run its minority government.

Ms Giddings made the shock announcement today, after reportedly sacking the two Greens that held ministerial jobs in Tasmania.

She said the state would go to an early election, on March 15, the same day as South Australia had already planned its state election.

It is understood the Premier sacked her Greens Education Minister Nick McKim and Human Services Minister Cassy O'Connor earlier in the day.
