Share New Zealand culture in brilliant day of fine feasting

WAITANGI Day acknowledges and celebrates the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand's founding document.

In acknowledgment of this cultural day, Gladstone Kotahitanga Roopu will deliver Gladstone's 2014 Waitangi Day on Saturday at Gladstone Showgrounds.

The event will take place between 10am and 6pm.

The celebration entails food and cultural stalls, competitions and plenty of entertainment.

It is a great chance for the local community to enjoy and join in a great sharing of culture.

There will be a $5 entry fee, with children under 12 free.

Plenty of food will be on sale, including the very popular underground cooking the Pacific Islanders are so famous for - commonly known as "Hangi".

Also, New Zealand-grown seafood such as "Kai Moana", "Mussel Chowder", "Creamed Paua" and "Kinna Punnets" will be on sale for the public to try.

The main entertainment will be provided by Gladstone Kotahitanga Kapa Haka as well as the "Flowers of the Pacific".
