Damaging winds, hailstone warning issued for Capricornia

A SEVERE thunderstorm warning was issued for people in parts of the Capricornia and Wide Bay and Burnett forecast districts on Monday at 2.46pm.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours.

Locations which may be affected include Gladstone, Rockhampton, Yeppoon and Town Of 1770.

Emergency Management Queensland advises that people should:

  • Move your car under cover or away from trees.
  • Secure loose outdoor items.
  • Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
  • Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
  • Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.

The next warning is due to be issued at www.bom.gov.au at 5.50 pm.
