Seven Australians arrested in $6 million drug bust

POLICE in Victoria have arrested seven Australians and one New Zealander after a five month investigation led to an estimated $6 million drug bust this morning.

The joint Victorian, New Zealand and Australian Federal Police operation has smashed a multi-million organised crime ring.

Authorities reported 15 search warrants were executed across numerous homes and businesses in Melbourne, with police seizing a "large amount of powder" believed to be heroin and tablets believed to be ecstasy.

Police also seized vehicles in the raids which crippled a criminal group believed to be trafficking in heroin in Australia and New Zealand.

Those arrested were seven Australian men aged between 20 years old and 49 years old and a 53-year old Auckland man, all of whom were remanded in custody.

Specific charges on each of those arrested have not yet been reported.
