Set for Relay for Life fundraiser

LACE up the walking shoes, Gladstone – Relay for Life is finally here.

After months of hard work and planning, the event will come to fruition this afternoon as tents go up and entrants get ready to walk.

Among those putting the final touches to the event last night were Relay for Life committee chairman Col Chapman.

“We’re very happy with how it is coming together,” Mr Chapman said.

“The numbers of teams is very pleasing and we’re well on track with our fundraising.”

It is part of a nation wide celebration to help fight back against cancer.

People come together from all walks of life to remember those who have lost their battle with cancer, celebrate those who have survived and move forward to finding a cure.

At Chanel College today from 2pm the relay will start with the opening ceremony featuring the municipal band and the survivors walk.

Teams will dress in a theme of their choice and there will be outrageous costumes – everything from Licorice All Sort’s costumes to clowns.

The entertainment will be plenty with cheerleaders, bands, singers, dancers and even a candle light ceremony. The event would not go forward without the dedication and support of the sponsors.

This year’s major sponsors included Terry White Chemists, Library Square Brassiere, TWD, St Johns, Gladstone Party Hire, Brownie’s Pro Shop, Earles Paint Place, BPM Cowlrick, JJ. Richards, Johnno’s Camper Trailers and many more.

If you missed out on getting involved with this year’s Relay for Life you can participate by donating funds via www.relayforlife.org.au or by telephoning 1300 656 585.
