UPDATE: Two women are fighting for their lives after a horror head-on crash on the New England Hwy south of Warwick this morning.

Police are yet to release an official cause of the crash.

It is believed the driver of a white 4WD, which was travelling towards Stanthorpe, veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with a red car, which was being driven by a woman on her way to Brisbane.

There were two people in the white car - a male driver and his female passenger.

When the white car made impact with the red car the passenger of the white car was flung nine metres from her vehicle.

Authorities have reopened the New England Hwy.

1PM: Three people have been injured in a two car head on crash on the New England Hwy this morning.

RACQ CareFlight Rescue tasked both its Gold Coast and Toowoomba helicopters to the crash scene south of Dalveen just after 11am.

The female passenger of a white 4WD has multiple injuries after she was ejected from the car and thrown nine metres.

She has been airlifted by the Gold Coast RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.

Her condition is not known.

Emergency services remain at the scene of the crash.

The New England Highway is expected to be closed for several hours.

11.20AM: Emergency services are working to free a motorist trapped in a car involved in a serious two-vehicle crash on the New England Hwy south of Warwick.

Debris is scattered across the highway, which is blocked in both directions near Dalveen. The crash was reported about 10.50am.

Paramedics are treating a motorist laying on the side of the road. They were reported to have been thrown from one of the vehicles.

Hydraulic cutting equipment is being used to free an injured motorist from the crash wreckage.

At this stage, two people have been confirmed as seriously injured.

11AM: Emergency services are at the scene of a serious two-vehicle traffic crash on the New England Hwy at Dalveen.

The crash was reported about 10.50am between Warwick and Stanthorpe.

Two people have been seriously injured. The New England Hwy is completed blocked in both directions at the scene of the crash.

There are reports a person has been thrown from one of the vehicles involved.

Police and the Queensland Ambulance Service are at the scene. Paramedics are treating the injured motorists.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
