Week provides perfect opportunity to start active retirement

SENIORS Week is a celebration to recognise the invaluable contribution seniors make to the Gladstone community.

Thanks to Gladstone Regional Council, the week is a great way to develop new interests.

Celebrations began on Saturday and will run until Sunday, August 25.

The week includes various activities, encouraging seniors to be active, meet people, have some fun and engage in the community.

Gladstone Regional Council community development officer Andrea Hughes said there were more than 50 activities organised across five locations.

"A lot of Seniors Week is about giving people a taste of new activities," she said.

Ms Hughes said Seniors Week represented a perfect opportunity to start an active retirement.

And she said the region was certainly full of active people.

"The Seniors Talent Quest has shown that," she said.
