Seeney accuses MPs of grandstanding on 100% FIFO

QUEENSLAND Deputy-Premier Jeff Seeney has called on federal MPs, which he accused of "grandstanding" over fly-in, fly-out workforces, to get across the complexities of the issue before trying to score cheap political points.

He said instead of entertaining "cheap one line answers to the situation" they should instead look at ways at helping the communities who elected them.

Federal MPs Michelle Landry, George Christensen and Ken O'Dowd have been highly critical this week over their perception surrounding the State Government's stance over fly-in, fly-out workforces.

Mr Seeney, talking exclusively to APN Newsdesk, said the State Government's position had not changed.

He said the government did not support further fly-in, fly-out workforces and could not foresee any further approvals being made than the two which are currently in place.

"I think it is unfortunate they have done that and I think they need to understand the complexities of the issue," he said.

"They need to understand the Federal Government have a very legitimate role in assisting us to grow the regional communities across Central Queensland.

"Things like the fringe benefits tax have got a significant impact on the decision people make about where they live.

"Things like the zonal taxation allowances also have a significant impact."

Mr Seeney said the Federal MPs should "get on" with pursuing those issues if they were serious about helping address concerns people in the region may have.

"That is a lot more difficult than doing a bit of grandstanding in the media," he said.

"They need to actually get on and do the difficult stuff."

Mr Seeney said state MPs in the region who had voiced concerns over fly-in, fly-out workforces have been "provided with information that will help them understand the complexities of the issue".
