Education career all set with school-based traineeship
GEORGIA Manning was speechless when she found out she had secured a school based traineeship at Gladstone Central State School.
The year 12 Technical College student will complete a school-based traineeship in Certificate III Education Support over two years, working at the school every two weeks while still studying at tech.
Hearing she had received it was the best news Georgia has had all year.
"I was speechless at first and I reckon it's pretty good," she said.
"Mum nearly started crying when I told her.
"I'm pretty happy that I've got something to do once I finish school."
Georgia wants to become a teacher's aide and has already got a taste of what the role is like.
"It's all about communicating with the students and helping them learn," she said.
Technical College Gladstone business development officer Karen Dixon said a traineeship at a Gladstone school was unheard of.
"As far as we are aware this is a first to be offered by any of the local schools to a school-based student," she said.
"Central was the first to put their hand up and we are hoping other schools follow."
Georgia's traineeship starts on July 15. She will mainly be working with Prep students.
