Season success says president

CRICKET: Gladstone Cricket Incorporated president Brendan Schluter said it has been a wonderful and competitive senior and junior cricket season.

The senior season culminated last weekend with three relatively close grand finals and Schluter said the focus is on junior development which in turn will aid the Gladstone clubs.

"Our junior numbers are pretty good at the moment and our game is all about the kids," he said.

"They are our future A graders and representative players."

Schluter said both Gladstone and Rockhampton will continue to work together so that teams will continue to prosper.

"We need to give our juniors a level to aspire to," he said.

The weather gods were in cricket's favour after last year's washout of the A-grade grand final.

The Glen beat BITS in the decider with The Glen also premiers in the reserves while Yaralla took out the B-grade title.

"The local comps were great and a really competitive season in all grades," Schluter said.

"All three grand finals were able to get on and it was a great day for Gladstone cricket.

"The GCI will continue to work hard with all our clubs to keep growing cricket in Gladstone."
