Search underway for six teens missing near QLD/NT border

POLICE are coordinating a search for six missing teens, five boys and one girl, who were last seen next to their stranded vehicle in remote country near the Queensland and Northern Territory border yesterday afternoon.

Preliminary advice indicates the teens were spotted by a pilot attached to a local cattle station around 3.30pm yesterday on the May Downs Road, approximately 30 kilometres from the Northern Territory border, and situated between two flooded creeks.

An air search involving several aircraft, both fixed wing and rotary, is currently underway with a land based search currently not deemed possible due to adverse wet weather and restricted access.

The teens are all believed to be aged between 15 and 16, and possibly from the Mt Isa area.

Local roads in the area travel to Mt Isa, Camooweal or Lake Nash and police are appealing for motorists in the area to report any sightings of the teens.

No further information is available at this time and police investigations are continuing.
