Search for man who stole car from Marian good Samaritan

UPDATE 12.15PM: Police are yet to track down a man who stole a car from a good Samaritan who stopped to help him during a crash in Marian early Friday.

Emergency services were called to a crash involving a black Subaru wagon and a truck on Anzac Avenue about 6.30am.

A Queensland Police spokesman said a witness at the scene who stopped to help then had her car stolen by the male wagon driver involved in the crash.

"A member of the public who witnessed the incident got out of her car and went to check everyone was OK," he said.

"A man in the Subaru Liberty got into her car and drove off in it."

The offender left the scene in a red 2014 Hyundai Elantra heading towards Mackay.

The spokesman said police had identified a 'person of interest' and were still trying to track him down.

The truck driver involved in the crash, a 38-year-old man, was not injured.

Anzac Avenue was closed for more than an hour, but has since reopened.

INITIAL 6.50AM: A driver who was involved in a crash with a truck in Marian has reportedly stolen a car from a good samaritan who stopped to help.

Emergency services were called to a crash involving a car and a truck on Anzac Avenue about 6.30am.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said a witness at the scene who stopped to help then reportedly had her car stolen by the car driver involved in the crash.

The spokeswoman said the offender left the scene in a red 2014 Hyundai Elantra heading towards Mackay.

She said the truck at the scene was on its side.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said paramedics assessed one man at the scene of the crash, but he declined transport to hospital.
