Helicopter finds boat lost at sea near Mackay

Five people and vessel located near Mackay after search

UPDATE:

A WHITSUNDAY Water Police spokesman said the vessel has been located and the people on board appear to be in good spirits.

He said the vessel is being towed back to shore and is expected to be back this evening.

EARLIER:

VOLUNTEER Marine Rescue Mackay and RACQ CQ Rescue have been tasked to look for five people on a 26-foot power boat near Mackay.

A Whitsunday Water Police spokesman said they deployed VMR and CQ Rescue to conduct the search and rescue mission after a person on board the vessel said they were safe and well but the power running out of fuel last night.

He said they had not been heard from this morning by VMR so a search was underway to find them around Penrith Island, which is about 80km offshore from Mackay.
