Sea World evacuated as grass fire threatens Gold Coast spit

QUEENSLAND Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews are water bombing a grass fire burning near Seaworld Drive on the Gold Coast.

Visitors and resort guests from near by Sea World and Sea World Resort and Water Park were evacuated.

The Brisbane Times reports while crews continue to work to contain the blaze, evacuations within the area have been cancelled and visitors and resort guests are returning to the park.

 

EARLIER: AN emergent situation has been declared at Main Beach on the Gold Coast due to a grass fire.

The declaration of an emergent situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act was made just before 11am today and encompasses the northern end of McArthur Parade, Main Beach to the end of the spit.

The Courier Mail reports police are fully evacuating Sea World and the Sea World Resort and Water Park.

They are also speaking to staff of Sheraton Mirage about evacuating their guests.

Please avoid the area as emergency services crews respond to the incident.
