School sweethearts to wed

IT was young love. Lauren Christine Smith and Andrew Tony Parry first locked eyes when they were in Year 9, during a Year 12 graduation ceremony at Gladstone State High School. Lauren said she feels it's "silly" how they met.

"I put my feet up beside him on the chairs and we just started flirting from there. After that, my friend convinced him to ask me out; we started dating on November 26, 2008."

Four years later, Andrew popped the big question.

"We were in the Sunshine Coast with my best friend and his partner for my 18th birthday," Lauren said. On August 26 Andrew took Lauren out on the balcony of their room at the Elouera Tower. He sat Lauren down and, with the ocean as a backdrop, he poured out his heart.

"I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you." He then dropped to one knee.

Lauren said she never thought her sweetheart from high school would one day be her husband.

"I know we are young but I can't wait for my life to begin with him."
