Scammer targets senior
ADA Roberts was in the comfort of her home recently when the phone rang.
She answered and a voice said: "Hello Mrs Roberts, I have a surprise for you. I have a cheque for $5000 for you."
Mrs Roberts said, at first, she thought the man might have been telling the truth.
"I kept asking him, 'Who is it from?'" Mrs Roberts said.
"He just kept babbling. He said, 'The cheque's ready'."
Eventually the man on the other end of the phone asked Mrs Roberts to provide her bank account details.
That was the moment Mrs Roberts became certain she was being scammed.
She hung up the phone, shaking with worry, but with her money safe and sound.
