Santos donates $100,000 to help upskill midwives

PROSPECTIVE midwives in Gladstone have more than 100,000 reasons to smile.

Santos GLNG has announced the company will spend $100,000 funding an initiative to upskill nursing staff at Gladstone Base Hospital.

The midwifery scholarships will aid nursing staff through their university degrees.

Santos GLNG will also give $1 million to refurbish the high dependency unit and medical education unit.

Local nurse Missy Megaw is the first employee to benefit from the scheme, and said she was excited about her new venture.

Santos GLNG vice-president Mark Macfarlane said the scholarship was a timely boost for maternity services with the Gladstone region's growing population.
