Local women rally to help expectant widow
A GROUP of Gladstone women are rallying to raise money for the Kirchner family, who lost their son, brother and husband in a car crash six weeks ago.
According to his sister Heidi McCormick, Royce Kirchner was a giant of a man - in appearance and personality.
When he died he left behind his wife, Kristy, who discovered she was pregnant the day before his funeral.
It had been a dream of the pair for more than seven years to have children.
Women who have never met Kristy were so deeply moved by her story they felt compelled to help.
Rowena Anderson started a cupcake drive two weeks ago, offering a dozen cupcakes for $25.
She was inundated with requests, forced to turn orders away.
"The amount of support we've received from Gladstone is completely overwhelming," she said.
This Sunday there will be a family fun day garage sale (from 8am at 130 Dixon Dr, Telina) to continue the fundraising, in an effort to reach $100,000.
All proceeds will go to expectant mum Kristy.
