Saddle up for races

DON'T worry fellas, you won't be left at home on the couch this year.

Men are invited to join the festivities of the St John's Star of the Sea Caulfield Cup event for the first time in three years.

Organiser Kelly Cavanagh said she was looking forward to the lavish October event.

"We have a bigger venue this year and for the first time we are inviting the guys to come along too," Ms Cavanagh said.

Ms Cavanagh assured guests there would be a lot happening on the day.

Funds raised from the race day will be donated to St John's and Star of the Sea catholic schools.

Mrs Cavanagh said she hoped this year's event would attract greater interest than last year's day.

"We're hoping to sell 500 tickets this year," she said.

Guests will also get the chance to win a number of lucky door prizes including an iPad 4 and a holiday for two to Brisbane.

An autographed State of Origin jersey will be raffled on the day.

The race day will be held at the Gladstone Turf Club on Saturday, October 20.

Tickets are $75 per person and are available from Sunday, September 16, at the racecourse from 11am-2pm.
