Privacy of rural life possible with new Calliope allotments
WITH news that 44 rural allotments have been approved for development in Calliope, this week's Property Matters section looks at rural living with Ray White Gladstone director Andrew Allen.
Each week for the next four weeks, different kinds of living styles will be explored.
Ray White Real Estate released news of the subdivision recently, putting the call out for interested property developers to make an offer.
The 42 ha of land is at 2320 Dawson Hwy, Calliope with an adjoining established residential area.
Mr Allen said the rural lifestyle was one many people chose, whether it be couples looking to start a family or already established families with young children.
"It's been proven over the last 10 years that the rural residential lifestyle is popular with locals," he said.
"Calliope is perceived as a relaxed atmosphere and it's further away from industry.
"Traffic is nowhere near as bad as urban areas."
For families in particular, Mr Allen said a roomy home was one of a parent's top priorities when looking to buy.
"Gladstone has a high proportion of young families and they like to have space for the kids to run around as well as storage area for toys such as boats, jet skis and caravans," he said.
"The main benefit of rural living is not being so close to your neighbours. The privacy is better."
And those who make the decision to stay away from the city tend to stay in their rural home for the long haul.
"It's generally a long purchase," Mr Allen said.
"But once kids reach teenage age, you do see families make a decision to downsize to a smaller block as the kids aren't in the yard anymore and they are doing their own thing. It's definitely a trend we see."
As for the new Calliope allotment, Mr Allen said there's been no shortage of curiosity from potential developers.
"There's been a fair bit of interest from local and interstate developers," he said.
