RSPCA cats go on sale for $99 in statewide push

THE Bundaberg RSPCA is joining a statewide push by the organisation to adopt out as many cats as possible.

From today cats over four months old will be sold for $99, with a free bag of cat food and a bag of kitty litter.

Bundaberg manager Karina Taylor said the local RSPCA had a lot of cats and their kittens that were taking up space.

"We've got a fair few cats that have grown up and are over four months old and ready to be adopted."

Miss Taylor said the main problem was that people did not want to pay to get their pets desexed.

"A lot of people come in with kittens and say why should they get their cats desexed when they can just leave the kittens with us," she said.

Miss Taylor said a lot of the time it was the same people bringing in kittens time after time.

"You call up their name on the computer and they might have five pages of history," she said.

"Some of them have brought in up to 300 kittens over the years."

Miss Taylor said people bringing in animals could get angry if they were told the RSPCA had no room for them.

"We do tell them about other rescue groups they can have a look at, or tell them it's their responsibility to find a home for the animal," she said.

"But people can get cranky with us and say they're going to drown them or dump them."
