Ronan gets closer to Aussie hockey dream
A RISING talent in Gladstone's hockey ranks, Ronan McGuire just wants to get on the field and play the sport.
Having just made his second Queensland side, Ronan, 12, has proven he has the talent to achieve his dream of making the Australian team.
But for now, the young Sparks player just wants to get on the turf and play.
Heading to Adelaide playing for the Queensland Cutters Under-13 team, Ronan thinks his side can return with a gold medal.
"We will go pretty well, we won the national championships when I was in under-12s," he said.
"We have a good reputation."
Joining Ronan in the Queensland travelling party is fellow Gladstone player Will Mathison.
But while Ronan is part of the Cutters, Will will be playing for the Queensland Sabres.
The boys will head south to Brisbane before the October trip to South Australia for a camp to tune their skills and meet anyone they have not played with before.
"We get to train in Brisbane, it is a three day training in September.
"The championships are in Adelaide from October 2."
A rugby league player as well, Ronan will be balancing both local hockey finals and playing in semi-final action for Brothers before his trip.
"For footy we have made the semi-finals and play against Calliope, and I made it for hockey too," he said.
