CONDITIONS will be perfect for this weekend's Barra and Basstasstic Awoonga Dam Barra Tournament.

Lake Awoonga Boating and Leisure Hire manager Nijel Trezise said favourable weather conditions could auger for a bumper catch for anglers at the event.

"There will be an easterly wind pushing all the warmer water to the west side and the barra like the warmer water, but not too warm," Trezise said.

The Bureau of Meteorology predicts a 70% chance of showers during the morning, with temperatures in the low 30s.

"There is plenty of barra out there and the temperature they prefer is somewhere between 26 to 28 degrees," Trezise said.

"Once the water temp gets too hot, then the fish will go deeper into the water."

Tresize said commitments in running the business would prevent him from throwing a line in. Event assistant organiser Karen Nowland said an excellent turnout was expected.

"Apparently the caravan park is booked out," she said.

Nowland said 20 anglers competed last year and she hwould not deter anglers this year.

"That may put off fishermen, but not the true ones," Nowland said.
