IT was the last ball of the match which saw Gladstone go down to traditional rivals Rockhampton by the barest of margins yesterday.
Vice-president of Gladstone Rep Cricket Dan Williams said it couldn't have been much closer.
Gladstone batted first in the 50-over match, reaching 8-174, but Rockhampton hit the winning runs off the final ball to be 9-175.
"It was disappointing, we deserved to win," Williams said.
"I reckon we played a lot better than they did, but they got the win unfortunately."
Williams said it was their bowling that ultimately cost Gladstone the game.
"In the end we bowled 22 wides," he said.
"At this level it's unacceptable - very disheartening, really."
Gladstone 8 for 174 off 50 overs
