Music a premier draw card for families

ROCKING out to some of the best free entertainment in the city had many families flocking to the showgrounds for yet another flood recovery concert.

The State Government's Rise and Shine tour stopped off in Bundaberg yesterday and treated residents to four hours of music and activities.

Although former Cold Chisel rocker Don Walker didn't make the event due to a flight cancellation, music lovers still heard from the likes of Electric Bananas and Australian blues musician Ash Grunwald.

Trina Alexander brought her husband, friend and two daughters to the grounds especially to hear Grunwald.

"I'm a big fan," she said.

Mrs Alexander attended the last flood fundraiser, Mud, Sweat and Tears, and said the events were a great way to lift the spirits of the community.

"It's exciting - I want more of it," she said.

Rise and Shine was the second flood recovery event put on by Premier Campbell Newman to continue to promote community recovery.

"The Newman Government, in partnership with Queensland Music Festival, will deliver the Rise and Shine Queensland tour to 10 regions throughout the state," he said.

"This tour will be a fantastic celebration of each community, with entertainment, live music and family activities, plus a free barbecue."

The tour involves concerts at Rockhampton, Biloela, Gayndah, Laidley, Maryborough, Ipswich and Tamborine Mountain.

An event in Gladstone will be held later this year, during the Queensland Music Festival's 2013 program.
