Rock throwing idiots have been targeting cars for weeks

IDIOTS throwing rocks at Gladstone drivers are going to kill someone.

One couple are counting their lucky stars after narrowly avoiding a serious car crash when someone threw rocks at their windscreen recently.

The rock throwers have been targeting cars in the region for at least two weeks.

Kin Kora resident Kyren Welsh feared for his wife's life when a rock smashed into the passenger door of his car just over a week ago.

He and his wife Lyn were driving along Kirkwood Rd about 8pm when the vehicle was rocked by a giant bang.

"It went off like a shotgun when it hit the car," Mr Welsh said.

A rock thrown from the top of the cutting on the Emmadale side of Kirkwood Rd had struck their vehicle.

It left a 5-7cm dent on the passenger's front door, just below the window where his wife was sitting.

Mr Welsh said the rock throwing had been going on for some time in the area.

He warned it was only a matter of time before tragedy struck.

Gladstone Police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Jason Chetham warned of the deadly consequences of people tossing rocks at traffic on the region's roads.

"Clearly it's a very dangerous activity. Anyone struck by a rock in a vehicle can put a car out of control," Snr Sgt Chetham said.

"People can die from that kind of stuff; the implications of that (rock throwing) are very serious."

Mr Welsh believed a similar incident involving an inexperienced driver could easily end in tragedy.

Snr Sgt Chetham urged anyone who witnesses the attacks to contact police.
