GRAFTON'S Rob Whitby has earned himself an honourable draw, taking on a chilli sauce touted as close to weapons grade.
It wasn't the searing heat in his mouth that sent the Grafton Coffee Club employee running for the rest rooms after yesterday's chilli challenge.
"It was stomach cramps," Rob said. "The heat was OK, but my stomach just couldn't stand it."
As proof, Rob said he didn't touch the glass of milk sent in to the Grafton Shoppingworld rest rooms to ease his discomfort.
Rob took on three chilli sauces supplied by Emerald Beach chilli enthusiast Shep Shepard, wanting to make sure he challenged the maximum.
First up, he tackled the Moragu Madness, rated on the chilli hotness scale at 1.5million Scoville units.
Next up, he took on the grand-daddy of them all, a sauce called Nothing Beyond, rated at 4 million SU.
Finally, Shep produced a little dark brown bottle containing a sauce called Da Bomb, rated at a mere 1.5 million SU.
Shep said it was an extract of habanero chillis which took days to create.
"To get an idea of what Rob is going through, one of those green chillis in Woolworths is 5000 SU," Shep said. "Anything 4 million SU and above is just about weapons grade. Pepper sprays are 12 million to 16 million SU, but if you watered down one of these sauces and sprayed it on someone, they wouldn't enjoy it."
Shep imported the sauces from the US especially for Rob's challenge.
